Women’s World Cup: How Nigerian First Lady Tinubu, Ex-Governor Kwankwaso, Bello and others celebrated Super Falcons’ victory over Australia
Social media in Nigeria went into a frenzy as the Super Falcons recorded an emphatic 3-2 Group B win over 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts Australia at Lang Park in Brisbane on Thursday.
The African giants were in need of a victory after Canada – whom they drew in their opener – defeated the Republic of Ireland 2-1 on Wednesday.
Australia took the lead in added time in the first half through Emily van Egmond but it did not take too long for Nigeria to respond thanks to Uchenna Kanu.
Osinachi Ohale and substitute Asisat Oshoala added two more in the second half while Alanna Kennedy’s header deep in injury was nothing more than mere consolation.
The victory has left a lot of top Nigerian personalities from politicians to entertainers, retired and active footballers and passionate supporters buzzing in joy and happiness.
The Super Falcons need just a draw in their final Group B game against the Irish next Monday to book consecutive apperances in the knockout phase for the very first time.
WHAT GOD CANNOT DO DOES NOT EXIST.

The #FIFAWomensWorldCup2023 has shown that there are no minnows in football anymore. Who would have predicted that the Super Falcons will trash Australia 3-1? Nobody.
Nice showing from Uchenna Kanu, Ajibade, not to mention the ever reliable goal machine, Assist Oshoala. Big ups! pic.twitter.com/8W4yu1TkyD— Nnamdi (@Nnamdi_ndee) July 27, 2023
