UEFA confirms UK & Ireland as EURO 2028 hosts; Italy and Turkey to host EUR0 2032
The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland have been confirmed as the official hosts of the 2028 European Championship, UEFA announced on Tuesday.
The five-nation joint bid was confirmed at a meeting in Switzerland after Turkey stepped down to focus on a joint bid with Italy for EURO 2032, which was also confirmed after both bids ran unopposed.
The UK-Ireland bid, which was submitted in April, has ten stadia included for hosting the tournament, with six of the venues in England and one each from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

The six venues in England are Wembley Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, St James’ Park, Villa Park, and Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which is currently under construction.
In Northern Ireland, a redeveloped Casement Park in Belfast was included in the submitted bid along with the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Hampden Park in Glasgow, and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
All five countries are expected to go through qualification, with only two host nations assured of automatic places in the tournament.
The tournament, which will feature 24 teams competing across 51 games, will be held in June and July of 2028, seven years after England and Scotland both hosted European Championship games during the re-arranged 2020 tournament held across eleven European nations.
According to UEFA, 28 matches will be played in England, with six each in Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, plus five in Northern Ireland.
The opening match of the tournament is expected to be played in Cardiff, while the semi-finals and finals will be held at Wembley in London. The quarter-finals will also take place in Wembley, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
