The show has started already with Afcon bound teams organizing friendly games as a build-up to the tournament. As Benjamin Franklin said, if you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail” No team is ready to fail in this tournament, and they are giving us a glimpse of what to come in January.

Mauritania 1 vs 1 Gabon

in Group F played a 1– 1 draw with the Panthers in Group C at the TBC United Arab Emirates. This is Gabon’s second friendly after the Sunday humiliation by Burkina Faso.

Gabon’s captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the first goal from the penalty 27 minutes into the game. The Almoravid pushed for an equalizing goal in the first half, however, it did not come until late in the second half with a sublime finish by the Mauritania striker Pape Ibnou Ba, AC Le Havre, at 72 minutes.

Gabon 0 vs 3 Burkina Faso

This was a better result than the one on Sunday, January 2 where Burkina Faso defeated Gabon by 3 goals to nil. Seven Stadium in Dubia is where Burkina Faso humiliates the Panthers. Aubameyang could not do anything to rescue his country.

This result will serve as a morale boost for the Stallions when they open their Afcon campaign against Cameroon. Burkina Fason took the lead through Gustavo Sangare, Issa Kabore added the second before and Dango Ouattara completed the rout by making it 3-0.

Gabon’s coach, Patrice Neveu, while speaking after the match said that this result does not determine Gabon Afcon success.  It was a preparatory match, and the shortcomings have been identified.

Rwanda 3 vs Guinea 0

It was a total humiliation for the Syil Nationale. In Preparation for Afcon, Afcon bound Guinea played a friendly against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on the evening of Monday. Rwanda failed to qualify for this edition of Afcon after finishing third place with 6 points in the qualifying group stage.

However, it was Rwanda that defeated the Afcon bound Guinea by 3 goals to nil in the build-up to the 2021 CAF Africa cup of nations. the goals are courtesy of Muhadjir Hakizimana, Dany Usengimanamade, and substitute Fred Muhozi.

Guinea coach, Diawara, describes the game as a “good friendly game” and the match exposes the weak areas they need to work on as a team.
