Napoli striker Victor Osimhen said his frustration in Sunday’s Serie A match against Monza was an act to motivate his team after his substitution.

Osimhen scored his second league goal of the season as Napoli cruised to a 4-0 win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The Nigeria international’s goal came in the stoppage time of the first-half, and Algeria’s Adam Ounas later replaced him in the 84th minute.

As he was walking out of the pitch, Osimhen looked angry as he removed his face mask by the touchline.

When asked about his reaction after the match, Osimhen told Tutto Napoli: “It’s nothing to do with the change, but I wanted to motivate the team even more.

The Super Eagles striker went on to laud his Napoli teammates for their performance in the game and dominance.

“It was a great performance, I’m proud of how all this team interpreted from the first to the last minute,” he said.

“Everyone, from those on the field to those on the bench, will try to give our all for this season. There are many challenges to understand where this Napoli can go.”

Napoli currently sit atop the Serie A table with six points after two matches. Their next game is a trip to Fiorentina on August 28.
