The island nation was subdued by the Flames in a friendly game, to prepare for the Africa cup of nations, scheduled to start on January 9 in Cameroon.

Two goals for Malawi in the first half were all that was needed to sink the Afcon debutant. However, the Coelacanths managed to get a goal back through Faiz Matoour. The game was played in the Jeddah stadium in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The flames took the lead through Mhango’s free-kick from the edge of the box on the 25th-minute mark. In the 39th minute, Mhango who performed excellently in the game provides the assist for the second goal after a straight pass to Muyaba who then scored from a tight angle.

Comoros fought back and got their reward in the 43rd minute after John Banda fouled Matoour in the 18-yard box. Matoour took the penalty and scored, to make it 2-1. And that will eventually be the final score.

Both teams were unable to produce a goal in the second half and the match ended 2-1. Comoros will need to go back to the drawing board and try to improve on their performance.

Malawi is expected to play another friendly against Mali on January 4. Thereafter, they will leave Saudi Arabia for Afcon on January 5. They are in group B alongside Guinea, Senegal, and Zimbabwe.

They will kick-start their Afcon campaign against Guinea at Bafoussam Omnisport stadium on January 10.
