Ethiopia’s defender Yared Bayeh picks up the first red card of the Africa cup of Nations 2021 after 12 minutes into the game.

Ethiopia who is making her appearance in AFCON for the first time since 2013 are not likely to be awarded the best fair play team for this tournament. That’s because the center back, Bayeh was issued a red card, following a poor tackle on the Ethiopia’s Julio Travares.

Bayeh appears to be the last man on the Ethiopia defense line and the tackle also appears as an attempt to stop a possible goal.

The player was first issued a yellow card, but after a VAR review, the referee canceled the yellow card, and issued a red card.

Ethiopia will see out the game with 10 men. However, Ethiopia coach, Wubetu Abate made changes immediately in the 15th minute as he replaced Mignot Debebe (defender) with Mesud Mohammed (midfielder) in a tactical move to strengthen the Walia Ibex defense.

In the earlier game between Cameroon and Burkina Faso, Burkina Faso’s Steeve Yago picks up the first yellow card of AFCON 2021 after just 40 seconds into the game, following an extremely poor sliding challenge on Cameroon’s Fai.
