Pablo Ganet, Equatorial Guinea midfielder believes the reason the Nzalang Nacional are having a good run in the African Cup of Nations 2021 is because they play as a team.

Equatorial Guinea midfielder, Pablo Ganet suggests that they are performing excellently at the Africa Cup of Nations because they don’t have star players. He said that after their victory against Mali on Wednesday.

The Nzalang Nacional has enjoyed a good run of form in the tournament especially their famous 1-0 victory against the 2019 AFCON champion.

Against all odds, they defeated Mali 6-5 in the penalties to reach the quarterfinal of the tournament. Ganet who plays for Real Murcia, Spain as a midfielder, while speaking after the match says the secret to their success is because they don’t have star players- the team is the star.

“We are a small country. We don’t have a star – our star is the team,” Ganet told the media.

“If they respect us, fine. If they didn’t respect us it is up to them, but we showed our worth.

“I am so happy, I feel really happy, but not about me, but as a team, because we played as a team and it is in our power.”

Coach Juan Micha speaking after defeating Mali: “It’s historic for us to get this far and it comes after excellent work by my players.”

Equatorial Guinea will lock horns with Senegal on Sunday at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, to book a spot in the semifinals.
