‘African champions for a reason’ – Senegal praised for World Cup progress
Social media has been awash with praises for Senegal following their progress to the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations champions defeated Ecuador 2-1 in their final Group A fixture to finish second in the group, behind the Netherlands on Tuesday afternoon.
Ismaila Sarr broke the deadlock for Aliou Cisse’s men in the first-half, and then captain Kalidou Koulibaly restored their lead three minutes after Ecuador equalised in the 67th minute.
Thrilled by Senegal’s feat to become the first African nation to advance into the knock-out stage, fans expressed their thoughts on Twitter.

Senegal did this without Mane 👏🏽!!
When you have a very good coach in Cisse and the FA don’t get involved in his decisions unlike one country in west Africa that are the giants of Alimosho. Nonsense— Buchi Laba (@Buchi_Laba) November 29, 2022

The most enjoyable way to watch football is not to be attached to any team. See how I’m rooting for Senegal, but zero tension. If it’s Nigeria, Man Utd or Argentina now, my heart will be inside my mouth and I’ll be sweating inside AC.
