‘You can’t love football & hate Messi’ – Nigerians in awe of Argentina star’s World Cup masterclass
Lionel Messi sent the football world into frenzy with his opening goal in Argentina’s 2-1 triumph over Australia in the round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar scored his maiden goal in the knockout stage of the quadrennial showpiece by firing a left-footed shot in the 35th minute which capped his man-of-the-match performance.
The encounter at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium was also Messi’s 1000th career game, club and country combined and he has scored 789 goals with 338 assists to his name.
The feat has got Nigerians buzzing on social media with the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) debate re-ignited again.
