Win AFCON 2021 for me as a parting gift – Ahmed Musa
Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has challenged his teammates to win the AFCON 2021 trophy in Cameroon as a farewell gift for him.
Mr Musa made the request during a pre-match press conference in Garoua on Monday, ahead of the Super Eagle’s opening encounter against Egypt.
The Super Eagles and Egypt’s Pharaohs will face off at the Stade Roumdé Adjia at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in what could be the best match for the group.
However, the 29-year-old skipper added that he is willing to represent his country if given an open invitation for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Musa, who has the most caps for the national team, has challenged his colleagues to win the AFCON 2021 competition as a farewell gift for him.
He announced that this would be his final appearance in an AFCON tournament.
I believe this will be my final AFCON, inshallah.
I told the boys that this was the only gift they could offer me because this is my last AFCON, and they said they were prepared.
My first appearance at AFCON was in South Africa in 2013, and we won it, whereas my second time was in Egypt, and we came in third, he explained.
Musa earned his 101st international cap in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over the Central African Republic on Oct. 10, 2021, making him the country’s most-capped player.
He has contributed a total of 16 goals for the national team in his 12 years with the team, including four goals in the World Cup.
