WAFCON 2022: All you need to know about the final draw
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has scheduled the final draw of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for Friday, April 29 at the Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat.
The ceremony will have the hosts country Morocco alongside representatives of the 11 qualified teams in attendance.
Nigeria are the defending champions after beating South Africa in the final match of the last edition in Ghana 2018.
Who are the qualified teams?
Aside Morocco, Botswana, Togo, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Burundi, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Cameroon are the other countries who will be playing in the top women’s competition on the continent.
Four countries – Burkina Faso, Botswana, Togo and Burundi will be making their debut appearances.
How will the countries be paired?
Morocco being the host country has the A1 slot while Cameroon being the second-best ranked team take B1 and Nigeria as champions have been seeded in C1.
The remaining nine teams will be in Pot 1 and there will be three other pots A, B and C with three balls each to determine the position of each team in the group.
How many groups will be formed?
With 12 qualified teams, three groups will be formed with four teams each.
When will the tournament begin?
The 2022 WAFCON will begin on July 2nd and run till July 23rd.
