WAFCON 2022: SAFA promises Bayana Bayana $30,000 each to bring title home
The South African Football Association has pledged to reward Bayana Bayana 400,000 rands each ($30,000) if they win the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations that starts on July 2.
SAFA President, Dr. Danny Jordaan made the commitment during Desiree Ellis ladies’ meeting with the media on Tuesday afternoon before they jet out to Morocco later in the night.
South Africa are aiming to surpass their 2018 feat where they lost to Nigeria in the final game.
Interestingly, Bayana Bayana have an opportunity to avenge the final heartbreak they suffered four years ago when they face the Super Falcons in their opening Group B match on July 4.

Meanwhile, South Africa captain Thembi Kgatlana who won the Best Player and Golden Boot prizes in the 2018 edition, is optimistic about the team’s chances in Morocco if they take a game at a time.
“I mean getting into the quarter or semi-final for us is just taking one game at a time because we don’t want to say we’re gonna do this, do that and when things don’t happen we hold ourselves with a gun to the head,” Kgatlana said.
“But taking one game at a time is what will help us, that is the same mentality we had in 2018 and the important thing was getting the results that we needed in the watch.”
