WAFCON 2022: Nigerians proud of Super Falcons despite semi-final heartbreak
Football enthusiasts across Nigeria have showered praise on the Super Falcons despite their semi-final defeat to Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night.
Nigeria settled for a 1-1 draw at the end of 120 minutes after Halimatu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ayinde were shown red cards in the second half, and they held on with nine women for the penalty shoot-out.
Unfortunately, the nine-time African champions lost the shoot-out by 5-4 as Morocco qualify for their first ever final in the continent’s foremost women’s competition.
Despite the heartbreak of missing a record 10th title, Nigerians have shown their support for Randy Waldrum’s ladies to appreciate their resilience and courage.
This Lady played full 90 minutes plus extra time. She ran the full length and width of the pitch at least 50 times. That is hard work. The Babe was really tired. Thank you Ify..!#onumonu#superfalcons#wafcon2022#sswafcon2022 pic.twitter.com/b7GpoxtdpU
