Victor Moses wins Russian Cup with Spartak Moscow

Former Super Eagles star Victor Moses played the entire duration for Spartak Moscow as they defeated Dynamo Moscow 2-1 to lift the Russian Cup on Sunday.

Alexander Sobolev opened the scoring for Spartak in the 10th minute but it was cancelled out in the 55th minute by Arsen Zakharyan.

With 18 minutes left on the clock, Quincy Promes restored Spartak’s lead and they were lucky to hold their ground despite the nervy finish to the game.

At the end of 90 minutes, the referee signified seven minutes of added time and Dynamo Moscow came close to levelling matters with a penalty in the 99th minute. Danil Fomin stepped forward to convert but he missed his target.

Sunday’s success was Spartak Moscow’s first domestic win since 2017 when they won the Russian Premier League.

Moses joined Spartak Moscow on a permanent deal from Chelsea in June 2021 and he contributed three goals in 33 matches across all competitions this season.
