Umar Sadiq: Nigeria striker secures Almeria’s promotion to La Liga
Umar Sadiq was the hero for Almeria as they clinched the Spanish Segunda Division title and gain promotion to La Liga on Sunday.
Sadiq’s equaliser ensured Almeria avoided defeat with a 2-2 draw against Leganes and also finished the season level on 81 points with second-placed Real Valladolid but with a superior goal difference.
The Super Eagles striker scored a 53rd-minute equaliser for Almeria after his compatriot Kenneth Omeruo put Leganes in front before half-time.
Rubi’s side are back in the Spanish top-flight after playing in the Segunda Division in the last seven seasons.
Sadiq, who recently withdrew from Nigeria’s friendly games against Mexico and Ecuador, ended the league campaign with 18 goals in 36 matches, four goals behind top scorer Borja Baston.
