UFC: Kamaru Usman loses welterweight title to Leon Edwards
Nigeria’s Kamaru was beaten by Jamaica-born Leon Edwards at UFC 278 event in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The epic night started with both fighters throwing caution to the wind and a confident Usman landing solid blows on Edwards’ face and sides, the Jamaica-born star also countered and locked Usman down to get his own clean hits in.
In the subsequent rounds, Usman kept his feet on the ground as an ankle injury hampered his movement, but he was still able to land some solid punches on Edwards.
Usman was dominating the fight until the fifth round when Edwards landed a heavy left high-kick on his face and the Nigerian star fell on the floor.
The knock-out saw Edwards avenge his defeat to Usman in 2015 and he also ended his 15-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC.
He is now the first British UFC champion since Michael Bisping in 2016 and only the second in history.
