Syli Nationale of Guinea Provides Final Squad Lists for AFCON 2021
Guinea’s coach Kaba Diawara has released the final list of the 28-man Syli national squad that will represent Guinea at the biennial Africa showpiece.
As expected, the squad is graced with high-profile players, which includes Naby Keita of Liverpool, Amadou Diawara of AS Roma and Florentin Pogba of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
The squad also features the likes of RB Leipzig star, Ilaix Moriba, Mohammad Camara, Young boys, Ibrahim Cone, Malta and Sory Kaba, OH Leuvens, Saidou Sow, St Etienne, France.
Home-based professionals like Morlaye Sylla and Moussa Camara of Horoya Athletic Club are also part of the squad. Horoya AC has won the Guinea league 1 championship for 18 times.
Guinea will be competing with the Teranga Lions of Senegal, Zimbabwe (the Warriors), and (Malawi, the Flames) in the group stage of the tournament.
They will commence the tournament against Malawi on January 10. Battle it out with Senegal on January 4 and ends the group campaign at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaoundé where they will be taking on the Warriors.
Guinea is making their 13th appearance in the 2021 CAF Africa nations cup. Their best performance is a second-place finish below Morocco in the 1976 final group stage.
Unlike other AFCON tournaments, the winner of the 1976 tournament was determined by a final group stage game. The 1976 AFCON was the last time the final group stage format was used to determine the winner of the Africa nations cup.
