‘Super Eagles were not super’ – Nigerians react to hard fought win over Sierra Leone
Nigerians were left unimpressed after the Super Eagles struggled for a 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday.
The three-time African champions found themselves behind just after 11 minutes with Jonathan Morsay opening the scoring for Sierra Leone, but they responded with an equaliser from Alex Iwobi in the 17th minute.
They maintained the momentum to take the lead with their constant attacking push which later paid off with a minute before the half-time as Victor Osimhen connected to Moses Simon’s assist.
Aside from the Super Eagles’ unconvincing performance, fans were far from happy with the state of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium which apparently left the two teams struggling.
This Super Eagles are not anywhere Super. They are not convincing. Are these the best Nigerian players available. I doubt if these set of players can cover themselves in glory. #NGASLE

– Osimhen has a very good game.
– The Super Eagles need to take their chances more often.
– Our defense needs real improvement.
– It was a narrow win.#AFCON2023Q #NGASLE

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have Players playing in Grade A club in Europe. They are young and talented. They are Starters in their clubs, but for the National Team, There is no cohesion. The 2 – 1 over Sierra Leone today wasn’t convincing.

The Super Eagles with their “usual display” and this one ends in a win… Sierra Leone gave a good account from all I saw and could have been a draw.
Well done Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen for the goals

Maybe people like you shouldn’t be afraid to call out our administrators. You people know them. They are the one ruining the beautiful game. Super Eagles have no business leaving Uyo at least for now

Osimhen remains the Super Eagles best striker by far. His work ethic and passion is second to none.

The Super Eagles shouldn’t be playing on such a terrible pitch.

Calvin Bassey is going to be a very important player for the Super Eagles for many years.
