Super Eagles to play World Cup-bound Mexico & Ecuador in friendlies

412views

Ecuador and Mexico have confirmed international friendly games against Nigeria to prepare for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Super Eagles will first battle Mexico in Texas on May 28 before facing Ecuador in another venue in the United States of America in June.

The North American and South American countries considered the option to play against the three-time African champions after they failed to qualify for the global showpiece that will take place later in November.

Ghana stopped Nigeria from qualifying after holding their West African rivals to a 1-1 draw in Abuja and they win based on away goals.

For the World Cup, Ecuador have been pitched against reigning African champions Senegal, Qatar and Netherlands in Group A while Mexico have Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Poland in Group C.

However, the friendlies are expected to get Nigeria ready for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which will commence in June.

The Super Eagles will know their group opponents at a draw ceremony that will hold in South Africa on April 19.
