Shorunmu calls for Nigerians’ patience after Ecuador loss
Nigeria goalkeeper coach Ike Shorunmu is impressed by the Super Eagles’ performance despite their 1-0 loss to Ecuador in an international friendly match on Friday morning.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions have now conceded back-t0-back defeats wiithin a week after a 2-1 defeat to Mexico on May 29.
Shorunmu who is with Jose Peseiro’s technical team told FansConnect that Nigerians should be patient as the team is gradually improving under the Portuguese coach.
“Infact, I just want to tell our people to be patient. Although we conceded a goal on Friday morning, I am very impressed with the defensive qualities we have,” Shorunmu told Fans Connect.
“It is a matter of time and I want to tell Nigerians that we will make them happpy with a win against Sierra Leone in our AFCON qualifiers next Thursday.
“There are a lot of positives in the last two matches and I’m particularly satisfied with our goalkeepers’ qualities. We will get to that point Nigerians expect the team to be.”
The Super Eagles will resume competitive action on June 9 when they welcome Sierra Leone to Abuja for their first 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Nigeria are enduring a five-game winless run, with the last win dating back to their 2021 AFCON when they handed Guinea-Bissau a 2-0 loss in January.
