Scholes: Leicester City’s Ndidi is the kind of player Manchester United need
England legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club, Manchester United to sign Leicester City’s Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this summer.
Scholes, in a YouTube podcast – Football Daily, applauded Ndidi’s qualities and ball-winning skills which he thinks would boost United’s midfield set-up.
Ndidi made 19 Premier League appearances for Leicester City before he picked up a season-ending knee injury in a UEFA Europa Conference League match against Rennes in March.
Scholes who is renowned for his aggressive in the middle of the park during his playing career, heaped praise on Ndidi who averaged 3.2 tackles per league game as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
“Leicester’s Wilfred [Ndidi] still very much fits the bill of what Man United are looking for, and with just two years remaining on his contract at Leicester, it’s likely to cost significantly less than the eye-watering sums associated with him in summer past,” Scholes said.
“And while he missed the last two months of the season with a knee injury, he remains one of the best defensive midfielders in the game when fit, averaging an astounding 6.5 tackles and interceptions each match and ranking in the top seven per cent of midfielders for aerial duels, too.”
