Roger Federer donates 3000 tablets to schools in Malawi
Tennis legend Roger Federer continued his philanthropic gesture in Southern Africa with the donation of 3000 tablets to schools in Malawi on Wednesday.
Federer made the donation through his foundation, Roger Federer Foundation and the tablets which came with solar panels were received by Malawi’s Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati.
The tablets loaded with vital Apps will aid early childhood development as they contain learning materials which are essential for an age-appropriate learning environment.
The Roger Federer Foundation is focused on improving the quality of children’s education in Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

“In Africa, there are two main problems affecting education. On the one hand, in some countries, there are still too many children without access to primary education,” read the Foundation’s mission statement.
āOn the other hand, the quality of education offered is in most cases insufficient. In relation to the first point, countries in southern Africa have made up much ground over the last years and have a school enrolment quota equating to the global average.
āFar too often, however, schooling ends prematurely. Schools lose on average 40% of their pupils before the fourth year. Minimum learning objectives are far from being achieved due to, among other things, the massive shortage of teachers.
āAccording to UNESCO studies, 58% more trained teachers are required. The reasons for the lack of adequate education on the African continent are manifold and best illustrated in the annual report of UNOās āEducation For Allā initiative.
āTo improve the quality of education, a package of measures is required, which the Roger Federer Foundation promotes in all of its programmes.ā
Federer who was not played competitive tennis since he lost to Hubert Hurkacz at the 2021 Wimbledon, announced his return to the court for the Swiss Indoor Championships that will take place in October.
