Pogba and Conté replaced following withdrawal from Squad

In a statement released by the Guinea Football Federation, Pogba and Conte have been replaced with two home based players after withdrawal from the Guinea Afcon 2021 squad.

The Guinea Football Federation (GFF) has recalled two players for reinforcement after the France based, Florentin Pogba and Universitate Craivo’s Antoine Conté withdraw from the squad.

The GFF has announced that the two home based players, Fodé Camara who plays for Horoya AC in Conakry, Guinea and Gaoussou Siby Youssouf, Wakrya AC in Boke, Guinea will replace the injured duo Florentin Pogba, Souhaux, France and Antoine Conté, Universitate Craivo, Romania.

Fodé Camara is a defender, while Gaoussou Siby Youssouf plays as a midfielder for both country and club.

Pogba’s withdrawal is due to an injury in the right knee and ankle, while Conte’s withdrawal is due to unsatisfactory physical form. Antoine Conte reported that he felt he is not 100% physically fit after suffering an injury, so his excusing himself from the tournament.

Before Guinea commence their Afcon campaign on January 11 against Malawi, Guinea is due to play pre-Afcon games against Rwanda on 2 January and Cameroon on January 6 as a warm up for the tournament.

Guinea is yet to win the Afcon title. Their best performance in AFCON was a silver medal in 1976.
