Niko Kovac sacked by Ligue 1 side Monaco

Former Bayern Munich and Croatia manager Niko Kovac has been sacked by Monaco after just 18 months in charge of the Ligue 1 side.

Kovac took over the underperforming French side from Robert Moreno in July 2020 on a three-year contract with the option of a further season.

The Principality side finished third last season but was eliminated in the Champions League’s qualifiers and are currently sixth on the French table, 17 points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Monaco said Kovac had been informed of the decision on Thursday and officially announced it on Saturday.

Club Bruges’ Philippe Clement is reportedly the favourite to replace Kovac.
