Nigeria’s Moffi at the double as Lorient win eight-goal Ligue 1 thriller
Nigeria striker Terem Moffi scored a brace for Lorient in their 6-2 triumph over Saint-Etienne in a Ligue 1 fixture on Friday night.
Moffi’s first-half goal inspired Les Merlus to overturn a two-goal deficit and grab maximum points at home. Gabon’s Denis Bouanga and Arnaud Nordin put Saint-Etienne in front with goals in the fourth and 22nd minutes, before Moffi converted from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute.
Three minutes later, Senegal’s Ibrahima Kone grabbed an equaliser for Lorient to keep both teams level at the break.
After the restart, Moffi turned provider of an assist for Kone to grab his second goal of the night in the 65th minute.
With four minutes left on the clock, the Super Eagles star also found the back of the net to extend Lorient’s lead and it also secured their first home win in the French top-flight since February 6 when they defeated Lens 2-0.
This season, Moffi has scored seven goals in 30 league appearances for Lorient who occupy the 16th spot in the league table with 31 points from 31 games.
