Much Is Not Needed From Me, Iwobi Tells Critics
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi says he’s playing according to the instructions of the team’s technical crew and may not necessarily do anything different in subsequent games for the team.
The former Arsenal man has been a subject of criticism from Nigerians for not being able to replicate the creative role of Nigerian legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha who is incidentally his nephew.
However, at the team’s Press conference today ahead of tomorrow’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter final game against Angola, the Fulham midfielder explained that the most important thing is for the team to get the job done irrespective of who finds the net or create the goals.
He said “You don’t really need much from me when you have creative players upfront, there’s Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Simon Moses, there’s a lot of creativity upfront”.
“So the only thing myself and Frank (Onyeka) has been told to do is to control the game as much as we can and defend as a team, so whether it’s me creating or not, there’s always gonna be a lot of other quality players that can do the job”.
“So I will try to do my job for the team and like I said, it’s all to help the team win and that’s what I’m here to do”.
Iwobi is expected to keep his place in the team alongside Frank Onyeka in the midfield when the game against Angola’s Palancras Negras take center stage at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny, Abidjan on Friday.
