Mourinho aims dig at Tottenham Chairman Levy

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy as the Lillywhites will finish the 2022-23 season without a trophy.

The Portuguese tactician was in charge of the North London outfit between 2019 and 2021 but was sacked just before the EFL Cup final against Manchester City, Spurs losing 1-0.

Tottenham presents the only club Mourinho has failed to win a trophy. He joined Roma afterwards and won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. He has also led them to the Europa League final and will tackle Sevilla in Budapest on May 31.

He also said he does not have a connection with Spurs fans, owing to playing games behind closed doors for much of his time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I hope that Tottenham fans don’t get me wrong, but the only club in my career where I don’t have still a deep feeling is Tottenham,” Mourinho said.

“Probably because the stadium was empty, (it was) Covid times, probably because Mr Levy didn’t let me win a final, win a trophy, but is the only one.

“After that Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Manchester United, all the clubs I felt a connection.”

Spurs last lifted a title in 2008 when they won the EFL Cup and are also in danger of missing out on European football next season as they sit in eighth place with the final round of fixtures taking place this weekend.
