Morocco take on Egypt as they look to advance to the semis
Egypt v Morocco AFCON 2021 quarterfinals, is a match that will be watched by millions of soccer fans around the world. After what looked like a faulty start to the AFCON campaign, Egypt is suddenly a top contender for the tournament’s trophy alongside Morocco.
The Atlas Lions would face the previous champions Egypt, when the sides meet in the quarter-final of the tournament at the Ahmedou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Sunday. Morocco would take on the Pharoahs in the match as the second best FIFA ranked team in the competition behind Senegal. Morocco also holds a statistical advantage over Egypt having only lost twice to the Pharoahs since 1986.
Sofiane Boufal in a pre-match interview said,
“I think we are the team that has created the most chances during this competition. This is a point in our favour. It’s true that during these big games and big events that it comes down to the details. We will have to do better in terms of finishing, but the most important thing in football is to create chances and the goals would come by themselves”.
This will be the first meeting between the North African heavyweights since 2017, when Morocco cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory in the Africa Nations Championship qualifiers and the Atlas Lions will be hoping for a repeat of that result.
One would say it’s a North African affair…both teams play good football…Egypt has finally found their mojo…..they would be out to prove they are the team to beat….Morocco would be comfortable with fact that they beat them the last time they met….hope it will live up to expectation…
