Hakim Ziyech is the biggest omission in the final squad list released by the Morocco coach, Vahid Halilhodzic. The squad consists of 25 players, even though CAF allows countries to register up to 28 players.
Although, the former Ajax star will be missed, the Morocco team is boosted by the presence of Achraf Hakimi and the Sevilla FC forward, En-Nesyri who recently recovered from an injury. He has 24 goals in 52 appearances going into this competition.
The omission of Ziyech likely opens the way for the Barcelona youngster, Abde Ezzalzoulito to feature in the Morocco Afcon 2021 squad. Azzedine Ounahi, a youngster from the French league 1 club Angers SCO, has also been added to the squad.
The squad also features the Fiorentina midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat.
Munir El Haddadi will be making his first appearance in the CAF Africa Nations Cup after FIFA confirmed that the 26-year-old can play for the Atlas Lions after his brief appearance for Spain.
Morocco is zoned in the same group as Ghana, Gabon, and the debutants Comoros after finishing top of Group E in the qualifiers with four wins, two draws, and zero loss.
Morocco will seek to repeat the 1976 Afcon success in this edition. They open their Afcon 2021 campaign against Ghana on the 10th of January. Four days later, they will take on the Comoros, and end their group stage campaign against Gabon on January 18.
