Mohamed Salah still EPL leading goalscorer despite AFCON

The Liverpool forward is the English Premier League’s  leading goalscorer. 

Salah’s departure from Anfield to AFCON 2021, in the first week of January did not affect his position as the leading premier league top scorer.

Mohamed Salah still maintains the number one position in the race for premier league golden boot with 16 goals, despite being away for five weeks.

The Egypt captain had a hiatus in the premier league after leaving for Cameroon to represent his national team at the just concluded continental showpiece. Egypt finished second at the tournament after losing 2-4 on penalties to Senegal in the final.

After the tournament, the 29-year old has returned to Anfield, and featured for Liverpool against Leicester City for more than 30 minutes after replacing Roberto Firmino in the 60th minute. Liverpool won the game 2-0.

Although he was unable to add to his goal tally on return to action, the Egyptian is still the leading goalscorer with 16 goals, followed by fellow Liverpool player, Diogo Jota, 12 goals after week 24.

Followed by Tottenham forward, Son Heung min with 9 goals. Vardy and Antonio occupies the 4th and 5th position with 9 goals and 8 goals respectively.

Fellow African brother and teammate, Sadio Mane has also scored 8 goals so far, but occupies the tenth position.

Cristiano Ronaldo who occupies the 7th position has the same goal tally (8 goals) with Watford’s Dennis- 6th position.

Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe and Leeds United’s Raphinha currently occupies the 8th and 9th position respectively after week 24.

After Liverpool defeated the Foxes in their last premier league game, Liverpool will take on Burnley on Sunday, to put more pressure on the current league leaders, Man City.
