Messi set for PSG exit

Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Lionel Messi will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old Argentine’s contract will expire at the end of June and there has constant speculation on whether he would sign a new contract or depart to continue his career elsewhere with a possible return to his old club Barcelona or join Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal.

Galtier has however confirmed that PSG’S final Ligue 1 match at home to Clement Foot on Saturday will be Messi’s last game for the club.

“I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football,” Galtier said ahead of the game. “This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes.

“This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don’t think any of the comments or criticisms are justified.

“He’s always been there for the team. It’s been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season.”

Messi joined PSG last season after 17 seasons at Barcelona. His two seasons in PSG have seen him lift back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and one Trophee des Champions.

The 2022 World Cup winner has also had a hand in 67 goals (32 goals, 35 assists) in 74 appearances.
