Match preview: Nigeria vs Tunisia AFCON 2021 round of 16 bouts
Nigeria and Tunisia, two African giants, will face off in one of the round of 16 matches of the current 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament later tonight.
Following the conclusion of the Group stage matches on Thursday, Nigeria will meet Tunisia in the 2021 AFCON last-16 this weekend at the Roumde Adija Stadium in Garoua.
Nigeria took the first position in Group D with 9 points, while Tunisia was one of the four best third-placed teams in Group F.
The match will be broadcast live on our website at 8 p.m. Nigerian time, the match will also be televised on SuperSport and Sky Sports Mix.
The Super Eagles have won the African Cup of Nations three times, while Tunisia has only won it once, in 2004.
Both teams have met 20 times in the past; the Super Eagles have won six times and drawn eight times, while Tunisia has also won six times.
Nigeria is the only side that has qualified for the knockout stages in perfect fashion, winning all three of their group matches despite the Coach making significant changes to the starting eleven in the final game. Tunisia qualified for the knockout stages as one of the four best third-placed teams in the group stages.
When Nigeria’s Super Eagles face Tunisia later today, interim coach Augustine Eguavoen is expected to field the same squad that defeated Egypt 1-0 in their first group game in the tournament.
In their last five games, the Super Eagles have a record of WWWDW. Tunisia, on the other side, had LWLLD in the same number of games. In this AFCON 2021 round of 16 match against Nigeria, Tunisia’s fragile form could be their greatest nightmare. Nigeria defeated Tunisia in the third-place match of AFCON 2019, to emerge bronze winners at the tournament, the only previous high-level encounter between both teams.
