Sadio Mane and co. get $87,000 each and plots of land for winning AFCON
Senegal president, Macky Sall rewarded the Teranga Lions $87,000 each and plots of land for winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Senegal won their first ever Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties.
Senegal waited till 2022 to win their first ever AFCON after their debut in 1965. They came close in 2002 and 2019, but they were denied by Cameroon and Algeria respectively.
AFCON 2021 was a do or die affair for the Teranga Lions, and they finally brought the title to Dakar.
It was historic for the West African Country. The country is still celebrating the achievement. To appreciate the boys for their effort, Senegal president decided to honor the players by giving them $87,000 and 200sqm of land each for winning the trophy.
“As a token of gratitude, and on behalf of the nation, the players and other members of the official delegation will each receive a special bonus of 50 million franc CFA ($87,412) and a 200 square metre plot of land in Dakar,” President Sall said, as quoted by Reuters.
