Juventus defender Gelison Bremer will be out of action for a lengthy period after tests revealed he tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on Wednesday.

The centre-back was in action for the Bianconeri in their matchday two UEFA Champions League game away to RB Leipzig but was subbed off in the sixth minute after he suffered a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was pictured entering the J Medical on crutches on Thursday morning, and after the tests, their fears were confirmed.

In a Juventus statement per Football Italia said: “This morning, Gleison Bremer and Nico Gonzalez underwent diagnostic tests at J Medical, which revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the left knee for the former and a low-grade injury to the rectus femoris of the right thigh for the latter.

“Bremer will undergo surgery in the coming days.”

It is not certain how long Bremer will spend on the sidelines, but Juventus are expected to announce the time frame after he undergoes the knee surgery.

The combative centre back has started in all of Juventus eight games across all competitions this season playing the entire duration of those games before Wednesday night’s unfortunate incident.

Since joining Juventus from local rivals Torino in 2022, the Brazilian defender has made 91 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring eight goals.

Juventus will host Cagliari at the Allianz Stadium in Turin in a matchday seven Serie A match on Sunday.
