‘It was an embarrassment’ – Ferdinand tears into Man Utd defenders after heavy loss to Liverpool

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has criticised Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot following their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in a Premier League match on Tuesday.

Mohamed Salah’s double and lone goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane powered the Reds to a comfortable home win at Anfield that shot them to the top of the league table.

It was the second time this season that Liverpool scored four goals against Manchester United in the English top-flight, after thrashing them 5-0 back in October.

Ferdinand, in his assessment of Ralf Rangnick’s men, described their performance as ‘a shambles’ and an embarrassment.

“The whole team was a shambles,” Ferdinand told FIVE.

“Defensively, every goal you can pick out and go ‘what was he doing’. Every single one of those players, you think oh my god where are you. No awareness, no awareness of runners or players.

“The two full-backs, [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka and [Diogo] Dalot, not following their men and [Harry] Maguire in no man’s land. Not tight to the striker, not covering the run and in the middle of nowhere. People will say you shouldn’t pick out.

“You can’t hide from the fact that it was an embarrassment yesterday.”
