Guinea-Bissau can cause an upset against Nigeria and Egypt- Mendes
Guinea-Bissau veteran warns- the Djurtus have what it takes to cause an upset against Nigeria and Egypt when they take on the two giants on January 15 and January 19 respectively.
The Djurtus has been named as the under dog in group D but their goalkeeper, Jonas Mendes, who has 50 caps for the Djurtus, does not agree with that. And he believes the team is capable of causing an upset against the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt.
Cameroon 2022 is the third time the West African side will be featuring in the competition. Mendes was at their first appearance in Gabon where they crashed out of the group stage. He was also part of the team that travels to Egypt, crashed out again in the group stage.
The veteran is set to captain his side in Cameroon, but this time around they are looking to cause a major upset, and qualify to the next round.
“Beware of facing us, because everyone thinks Guinea-Bissau is a small team. We will surprise a lot of people; we are capable of that, so you have to take us seriously,” Mendes said in an interview with Filgoal.
Before Mendes side take on Egypt and Nigeria, they will first battle Sudan. The Djurtus will be aiming to secure three points against the Falcons of Jediane and put them in a good position when they meet the Pharaohs in the second group stage game.
