The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has relieved Milovan Rajevac of his coaching duties after an awful outing for the Black Stars at the ongoing 2021 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana is also set to face Nigeria in a West African derby, to secure a spot in the Qatar world cup play-offs.

Ghana alongside Morocco were the favorites in Group C before the tournament, but the West Africa side performed below expectation, finishing bottom of the table with one point. Lost two games including their famous loss against debutant, Comoros, and drew Gabon. They exit the tournament with two red cards, Andre Ayew v Comoros and Benjamin Tetteh v Gabon.

Consequently, the Ghanaian coach, Milovan Rajevac was sacked. Rajevac coached the Black Stars to a second place finish in Angola, 2010. He also coached them to a quarterfinal finish in South-Africa, 2010, but he could not replicate this performance in 2022, and he was fired.

Ghana have to put this disastrous outing behind them as they get set to face Nigeria in a West-African derby, for a place in the Qatar World Cup, which start later this year.

Egypt will also face Senegal in the play-offs. While the 2019 AFCON champions, Algeria will battle it out against Cameroon. DR Congo who misses out in the Cameroon Africa Cup of Nations was drawn against Morocco.

Mali faces Tunisia in their quest to qualify for the tournament for the first time.

The World cup play-offs draw:

Egypt v Senegal

Cameroon v Algeria

Ghana v Nigeria

DR Congo v Morocco

Mali v Tunisia
