The Egypt Football Association (EFA) have confirmed Pyramids coach Ehab Galal as the new national team coach.

Galal came out as the preferred Egypt-based coach ahead of legendary striker Hossam Hassan, and he will succeed Carlos Queiroz who was dismissed on Monday.

The 54-year-old will begin his reign with the Pharaohs after Pyramids’ clash against TP Mazembe in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday and April 24.

He has managed 16 wins, four draws and three losses in 23 matches across all competitions this season and Pyramids are currently third in the Egyptian Premier League table with three points behind leaders Al Ahly.

Galal, in his reaction, described the appointment to lead his country as an honour for him.

“I am proud, to be chosen as Egypt national team manager is an honour,” Galal said.

“The next period of time will be difficult but I believe in the players and we will try to live up to the fans’ expectations.

“I’d also like to thank all the EFA members for choosing me for the job.”

Meanwhile, the EFA have sacked its Portuguese technical director Nel Vingada as they look to revamp the tehnical crew of the national team.
