FIFA approves Leicester city’s Lookman to play for Nigeria

Ademola Lookman who has previously represented England at the youth level is now eligible to play for Nigeria.

The RB Leipzig player, but currently on loan at Leicester city is no longer eligible to play for the Three Lions after FIFA granted his switch to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Though is England citizen by place of birth, he is qualified to represent Nigeria through his Nigerian Parents.

He represented England at U19, U20, and U21 levels. Lookman was part of the England youth squad that won the Fifa U20 world cup in South Korea.

The 24-year old scored three goals in that tournament, notably, his brace against Costa Rica in the round of 16. On January 2020 Lookman Ademola set in motion his switch in allegiance to the Super Eagles.

He was initially recognized as one of the players to represent Nigeria at AFCON 2021, but could not represent the West Africa side because FIFA has not accepted his request at that time.

FIFA approval of Lookman to play for the three time AFCON champion is a boost to the National Football team ahead of their world cup playoff against Ghana.
