Fans question dismissal of Man Utd’s Casemiro against Southampton
Manchester United fans have taken to social media to vent their anger with referee Anthony Taylor after he showed a straight red card to Casemiro in their goalless draw with Southampton on Sunday.
Erik Ten Hag’s men had to play with 10 men for more than an hour after the former Real Madrid man was given marching orders for his tackle on Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.
Taylor first gave Casemiro a yellow card but after VAR review with the pitch side monitor, the referee changed his mind and dished out a red card.
United fans were clearly not happy with the decision and have questioned Taylor’s credibility, with some suggesting United needs to appeal the decision, while others think the Premier League need to do more in appointing referees that can make better and fairer decisions.
Casemiro had never received a straight red card in his career before joining Man Utd.
He now has two in his last three Premier League games 🫠 pic.twitter.com/XZ3cPqggG6

Casemiro never received a straight red card in his seven-year career at Real Madrid.
He's received two in his last three PL matches for Man United 😳 pic.twitter.com/GDnlBXLLwF

Casemiro never got a straight red card at Real Madrid and now he has 2 straight red cards at Man United this season. pic.twitter.com/Cu3AmrGFqp

Casemiro suspended for four games as it's his second red of the season. Banned for Fulham, Newcastle, Brentford and Everton (I think).

VAR intervention on Casemiro made more questionable by no action on Bella-Kotchap handball. He clearly obstructed Rashford’s cross with his arm. Should have been a penalty.#MUFC

Premier League is faster than La Liga, reason why Casemiro's timely tackles are not working in the league.
Get more cards than La Liga.

I saw three challenges on Chelsea yesterday 10x worse than Casemiro's. Never went to VAR. As soon as it's United it's straight there. No coincidence

The Casemiro red card was diabolical. He got the ball & there was no malicious intent in the tackle. That said,United could have done far more. Other than Bruno & Rashford, United's other forwards contribute nothing.Sancho's 3 months hibernation seems to have made him even worse.

I actually think the Premier League need to investigate Anthony Taylor and VAR today, this is a new level of bad. 2 clear pens denied and a silly red for Casemiro winning the ball.

Manchester United should appeal and use this plus many others as an example.
Casemiro may have been rightfully sent off but the lack of consistency is criminal. pic.twitter.com/Rj0cWx3S3I

Red cards in the Premier League:
N'golo Kante – 0
Casemiro – 2Guess which of them is in his first season pic.twitter.com/VbZPjYtxqL

VAR overturning that Casemiro red card but not Bella-Kotchap literally stopping the path of a cross with his arm is absolutely grim.
Anthony Taylor is meant to be one of the experienced ones. Joker.

Manchester United should appeal Casemiro red card and present, van Dijk v Everton, Saka v Aston Villa, Pereira / Amartey v Chelsea, all red cards but went unpunished, the agenda is clear.

Anthony Taylor's first half by numbers
•Red card when Casemiro's leg clearly slipped off the ball
•1 handball in the box, not given
•Bruno fouled in the box, not givenUnreal performance ✨ pic.twitter.com/G3Yc4nezjA

Swears man, looking at Casemiro's red card and I ask again why these Leicester players didn't get reds for these challenges pic.twitter.com/l7FUj5kDlm

Taylor is a dreadful ref….Casemiro gets the ball first ffs
— Mark Goldbridge (@markgoldbridge) March 12, 2023
We better be appealing that red on the grounds of every shambolic decision these refs have made in this game. Extra game does not matter at this point!! #casemiro

Anthony Taylor gave Van dijk a yellow for this tackle and sent off Casemiro for winning the ball
Make it make sense😂 pic.twitter.com/VddN4PUU3x

Casemiro is a 5 time Champions league winning FIFPRO World 11 player who has been nothing short of sensational for us since joining. He didn’t deserve either of his red cards imo, wouldn’t have been given it if he played for any other club. Still the best DM on the planet ✊🏽🇾🇪 pic.twitter.com/nHAPxclM6U

So play stopped for about 5 mins, but ref only gave 1 min added time, Casemiro wins ball and gets straight red (same person on VAR that gave him a red last time) and 2 clear penalties not even reviewed. 12 vs 10. The FA seriously need to have a look this. #mufc

There’s no benefit in criticising any player today (bar Casemiro of course). That was ridiculously hard fought and execution becomes harder the more tired you are. Just a tough day at the office but a point is fine. 11 vs 11 would’ve been an easy win. Moving on. 3rd remains ours.

Casemiro in 8 months at Manchester United: 2 Red Cards.
Casemiro in 7 years at Real Madrid: 0 Red Cards.

Conflicted over Casemiro red card. It’s a clumsy foul, bad connection of studs on shin, but a VAR overrule? Even Alcaraz seemed sad to see him go.
Still, he can’t have too many complaints for way he tackled. Will be eight games suspended already in 2023.#MUFC

casemiro got the ball first??? how's that a red anthony taylor you fraud pic.twitter.com/fU4FooJL7M

Casemiro needs to chill sometimes man, I’m tired
— Trey (@UTDTrey) March 12, 2023
Andre Marriner.
Can’t want to call Anthony Taylor over with the Casemiro challenge.
Doesn’t even ask him to take a look at the penalty shout.
The man is a f***ing disgrace.— Havit ten sAv🇾🇪🔰🏴 (@jonmikesav8) March 12, 2023
So it took 2 Casemiro red cards for certain fans to call him out
The same fans who’ve excused Rashford, Bruno and Shaw for long periods of awful form. It’s so clear they don’t want United to succeed

Casemiro is the new Xhaka, just with a lot less talent. #MUNSOU pic.twitter.com/dYJU1OCRsd

Anthony Taylor should be sacked after that shit refereeing performance 😡
I can’t believe @Casemiro is out for another 3 games again this season, both times shouldn’t have been red cards, I’m sick of these people being against United all the fucking time!!! pic.twitter.com/kbPfZQQlXZ

If that Casemiro tackle was by another player , it won’t have been given as a red card , Same can be said about his first red card too.
The profiling of Casemiro by PL referees is getting irritating now.

Casemiro – visibly in an emotional state over the decision – will now be suspended for four matches having received a straight red card against Crystal Palace in early February which earned him a three-match ban.
