Fans in shock as Super Eagles lose at home to Guinea-Bissau
Social media was in disbelieve as the Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 1-0 to Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Friday’s Group A encounter at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja was supposed to be one Jose Peseiro’s men were expected to win with ease but it proved not to be the case with Mame Balde’s strike in the 29th minute making the difference.
The result sees Nigeria drop to second in Group A, one point behind the Guineans whom they will tackle again in Bissau on Monday.
Friday’s result left a bitter taste in the mouth of fans on social media who were not pleased seeing large sections of Moshood Abiola Stadium having empty seats. Some believe the stadium is not befitting for the team as they remain winless since moving there last year from Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
For others, they blame the lack of zeal and determination from the players whom they expect to do much better owing to the gulf in class with the Guinea-Bissau players.
This is Uyo township Stadium right here in Nigeria.
Look at how clean the turf is but the Nigeria Football Federation chose Abuja over this beauty.💔💔💔
Why do we like suffering ourselves in this country? Why? 💔#NGAGNB pic.twitter.com/0V4EbQlbfZ

FT: Nigeria 0-1 Guinea Bissau. No surprise really, to see @NGSuperEagles go down at home. The Djurtus always looked the more likely to add to the score despite the Eagles being on the front foot most of the game #NGAGNB

The Super Eagles of Nigeria needs to go back to Uyo..
Our record there is unmatched, I wonder why we must always play in Abuja.#NGAGNB

Nigeria have huffed and puffed and failed to make anything out of it. Guinea Bissau hoof one long ball forward, and Balde makes it 1-0#NGAGNB

How did it get this bad for Wilfred Ndidi?
Someone we once compared to Ngolo Kante and Casemiro.💔#NGAGNB

I have a lot of things to say about @NGSuperEagle's performance against the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau. Four (4) consecutive losses for Nigeria, the first defeat (home) against the Djurtus since 2018. Seven (7) goals conceded since June 2022. First loss in 2023. Below par. #NGAGNB pic.twitter.com/rKdgkP3mfi

Ademola Lookman performance so far has been way below par.
Most of our players are struggling because of the condition of the pitch.
How is it so difficult to get a proper pitch for the Super Eagles.😐💔#NGAGNB

Our home matches always end up like we are the ones away.
NFF can do better with the pitches, these players are obviously struggling.💔
We see them play in Europe every week and we know what they are capable of.#NGAGNB

Peseiro clearly doesn't understand African football.
Why would you start a 'fragile' Akpoguma against physical side like Guinea-Bissau when you have Omeruo and Semi Ajayi on the bench? #NGAGNB
— Taiye Taiwo (@tayo_taiwo) March 24, 2023
Rohr wasn’t this bad. With what I have seen in friendly and competitive games, Peseiro is taking us nowhere. 😢#NGAGNB #AFCON2023Qualifiers

No pattern, no tactical moves, poor in all areas. 4-4-2 with the quality of players in this team is horrible. Jose Peseiro isn't just the right man, he is lacking in technical efficiency.
An eyesore. #NGAGNB

Nigeria players are making football difficult for Osimhen. No service at all, no style of play #NGAGNB

Jose Peseiro as coach of Nigeria:
Mexico 2-1 Nigeria
Ecuador 1-0 Nigeria
Nigeria 2-1 Sierra Leone
Sao Tome 0-10 Nigeria
Algeria 2-1 Nigeria
Portugal 4-0 Nigeria
Nigeria 0-1 Guinea BissauSack or keep the faith?#NGAGNB #AFCON2023Qualifiers

How in earth did Moses Simon not score there?
It was served to him on a platter.

This terrible and appalling Abuja pitch again. @thenff you will never learn. It is almost the end of the season and you want to injure these players on this shameful pitch… good luck. #NGAGNB
