F1: Ex-Red Bull driver Coulthard warns Sergio Perez amid disappointing results

31views

Former Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard believes Sergio Perez could have the same fate as Daniel Ricciardo if results do not improve in Formula 1.

The Mexican has scored only one point in the past two Grands Prix combined, which has seen Red Bull fall further behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship.

Ricciardo, meanwhile also struggled for form this season in the Sister Racing Bulls (RB) and was ultimately replaced by Liam Lawson after the Singapore Grand Prix.

“He [Sergio Perez] did brilliantly in Baku but one swallow doesn’t make a summer,” Coulthard said per Crash.net.

“One good result is not what you expect. He is clearly the number two driver in that team.

“If he doesn’t get solid points for the remainder of the year then, like Daniel Ricciardo, it looks like he’s on the way out of the door.

“It could be the same situation for Perez.”

Perez will hope to revive his form when the Formula 1 paddock heads to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin for the United States Grand Prix on Ocober 20.
