The national team coach for Ethiopia, Wubetu Abate announced a 25-man squad list for the Africa showpiece.
Although CAF permits the registration of players up to 28, Coach Wubetu Abate opts for a 25-man squad for the tournament, making the squad three-man less than the maximum 28.
The 25-man squad consists of three goalkeepers, eight defenders seven midfielders, and seven forwards.
The list consists of Ethiopian star players including Mujib Kassim, JS Kabylie, Bezabeh Meleyou, Fasil K, and Gatuoch Panom, St. George. JS Kabylie star Mujib Kassim is the only foreign-based player in this squad. Others are plying their football trade at home.
Ethiopia is making their 11th appearance at the tournament. Their last participation in Afcon is South Africa, 2013 where they failed to qualify from a group that featured Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Zambia.
Since their debut in 1957, Ethiopia has just one Afcon title to their name, which was won on their home soil in 1962. They have not enjoyed much success from this competition, so they are in a quest to achieve some success in this edition.
This quest starts from qualifying from a group that boasts of the host indomitable lions, Cape Verde, and Burkina Faso.
They kick-start their Afcon campaign against the blue sharks of Cape Verde on January 9 before battling it out against the host four days later. Their last group fixture is against Burkina Faso on January 17.
