EPL: Marcus Rashford delivers in dying seconds at Old Trafford
Marcus Rashford’s goal in the dying seconds gives the home side a hard earned victory at Old Trafford. His last-gasp winner ensured Manchester United snatched a 1-0 triumph over West Ham United to move up to 4th in the standings.
The last time Manchester United lost at home to West Ham in the Premier League was back in 2007, but the Hammers have been a different kettle of fish over the last couple of seasons and Ralf Ragnick’s troops were going to have to be on form to emerge on top.
The first of the big chances went the way of the Red Devils as Fernandes whipped in a dangerous cross that Cristiano Ronaldo nearly got on the end of. The rest of the half continued in cagey fashion, with neither team able to get their noses in front before the halftime whistle.
Fred nearly found a goal for the hosts in the opening minutes of the second half when a deflected ball fell straight to him in the box, but he wasn’t able to capitalize on the chance and it drew a quick save from the West Ham keeper. West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen also missed a chance to put his side ahead but could only find the side net.
When it looked as though the match was done and dusted and that both teams would walk away with a point, substitute Marcus Rashford got on the end of a counter attack from Martial and Cavani, who slid it across goal for Rashford to capitalize on from close range.
With no time left to find the equalizer, a dispirited West Ham side left Old Trafford empty-handed.
Who would have believed Man United would get this far with all what they have gone and are going through….outstanding performance…
