EPL: It’s all square at St. Mary’s

A battling performance from the Saints earns them a point against the Premier League leaders. Man City are 12 points clear and top of the table, but Southampton snapped Manchester City’s 12-match winning streak following their 1-1 stalemate at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The hopes of a quick Manchester City victory was put to a stop by Kyle Walker-Peters as he stunned all by putting the hosts ahead after just seven minutes with his first ever Premier League goal. The Citizens conjured up chances of their own after, but none managed to find the back of the net, Raheem Sterling missing a sitter after hitting the ball straight at Fraser Forster, much to the frustration of the travelling fans.

The second half kicked off much like the first, with the Saints coming close to doubling their lead, Ederson this time on guard to keep the ball out, while at the other end, Forster was called into action by a tricky Rodri attempt.

The woodwork was rattled not once, but twice as Armando Broja was once again in the thick of the action with the bar. City’s dominance in possession allowed for them to find a way back, a Kevin De Bruyne freekick finding Aymeric Laporte who headed home the leveller.

One should have been two for the Pep Guardiola side with Kevin De Bruyne showing how deadly he can be with a long range strike, but it rattled the post with Forster beaten at all ends. Both teams had chances to snatch the win at the end, but a valuable point earned by Southampton saw Manchester City’s 12-match winning streak come to a halt.
