Chukwueze’s equaliser sends Villarreal into UCL semi-final
Samuel Chukwueze scored an important equaliser that helped Villarreal advance into the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.
Chukwueze came on as a substitute to cancel out Robert Lewandowski’s opener as the Yellow Submarine settled for a 1-1 draw, which handed them a 2-1 aggregate win.
The Super Eagles winger was introduced in the 84th minute for Francis Coquelin and four minutes later, he linked up with Gerard Moreno before firing his right-footed shot past Manuel Neuer.
A week ago, Arnaut Danjuma’s goal separated both teams in Villarreal to give Unai Emery’s men a first-leg advantage.
The goal was Chukwueze’s second goal in the elite European competition this season after seven appearances, and it also ended his 13-game goal drought in all competitions, after his last goal against Real Sociedad on December 18.
Villarreal’s next opponent in the Champions League will be the winner of the quarter-final clash between Benfica and Liverpool on Wednesday.
