AUSTRALIAN OPEN: Immigration Minister cancels Novak Djokovic’s visa
There is a strong possibility that the World no.1 may not be able to compete in the upcoming Australian Open.
This comes after Australia’s Immigration Minister, Alex Hawke made the decision to revoke the Serbian’s travel visa into the country for a second time citing basis that it was in the public’s interest to do so.
Djokovic has come under fire throughout the build up to the Grand Slam over his Covid-19 vaccination status, culminating in him attending a photoshoot after testing positive for the virus and allegations that he made a false declaration about not having travelled in weeks ahead of arriving in Australia.
While it could potentially mean a 3-year ban before obtaining a new visa to visit Australia, it is not necessarily the end of the road for the top seed.
Djokovic still has the legal option to appeal this decision by the minister in court which if successful, would mean that fans get to see the Serbian make his attempt for a record breaking 21st Grand Slam title.
It would be sad if Djokovic doesn’t get to play in the Australian Open….am really looking forward to him attempting the record for th 21st grand slam….
