Arsenal’s Arteta gives Elneny & Partey injury updates before Man Utd trip
Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny and Ghana star Thomas Partey will not be available for Arsenal’s Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, according to Mikel Arteta.
The African duo missed Wednesday’s victory against Aston Villa and they are expected to spend the next few weeks on the sidelines.
Arteta, in his press conference on Friday, said Elneny will be out of action for months while Partey should be back in a matter of weeks.
Partey was the first to pick up a thigh muscle strain on August 20 against AFC Bournemouth and Elneny was drafted to replace him against Fulham a week later.
The Egyptian suffered a knee injury in the encounter and Arteta has been forced to stick with Belgium’s Sambi Lokonga in the middle of the park.
“For Mo [Elneny], we are talking months. With Thomas [Partey], we are hopefully talking weeks and even shorter than that. We have tried to manage him. A lot has happened since he’s joined,” Arteta said.
The Gunners boss added that the club are working to mitigate Partey’s injury worries.
“We are trying the possible way to find reasons for that. Unfortunately his body and mind are too difficult to und to put finger on to identify one factor. Attitude is there. He’s really disappointed and wants to get back.”
