Amunike and Song set to be the draw assistants for AFCON 2023 Preliminary Round
Former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amunike and Former Cameroon captain Rigobert Song have been confirmed as the draw assistants for the Cote d’Ivoire 2023 AFCON preliminary round.
The draw for the Ivory Coast 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round will start by 16.00 local time (15.00 GMT) on Friday, January 21 2022. It will be broadcast live on various CAF digital platforms. The former Barcelona player and former Indomitable Lions defender have been confirmed as the draw assistants for the event.
Emmanuel was part of the Nigeria golden generation that won gold medal at the 1996, Atalanta Olympics. He also won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. Song, on the other hand, was part of the Cameroon national football team that won the 2000 and 2002 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2023 AFCON qualifiers is divided into two stages, to give every team the chance to participate in the 2023 Africa biennial showpiece.
The first round is the preliminary round, in which the 12 least ranked teams will be paired against each other and the six aggregate winners will join the 42 highest ranked teams in the group stage qualifiers.
The six highest ranked teams among the twelve would be paired against the remaining six teams.
Pot 1: Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Gambia, South Sudan, Mauritius
Pot 2: Chad, Sao Tome & Principe, Djibouti, Somalia, Seychelles, Eritrea
