AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Nigerians not impressed despite Super Eagles win over Guinea-Bissau
Fans have taken to social media to share their displeasure even as the Super Eagles of Nigeria got the much-needed victory over Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 1-0 in Bissau on Monday evening.
Jose Peseiro’s men suffered defeat by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture last Friday in Abuja, and needed to win in Bissau after Sierra Leone saw off Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.
Moses Simon’s penalty in the 30th minute got the job done to return Nigeria to the summit of Group A.
The performance of the three-time AFCON winners left a lot to be desired with some players such as Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen, called out for being profligate in front of goal while praise was won for Bright Osayi-Samuel at right-back.
The general consensus is that the Super Eagles cannot compete against tougher opponents and challenge for major honours with the kind of display shown against Guinea-Bissau.
FT: Guinea Bissau 0-1 Nigeria. And @NGSuperEagles turn the tide against the Djurtus to go back to the top of the table. Nothing impressive, just a job done. Not a performance to strike fear in anybody#GNBNGA

Once again, Osayi-Samuel the bright spot in Nigeria's game. Won the PK by driving forward. taking on his man and getting in the box#GNBNGA

Maybe Samuel Chukwueze will be a great player when he retires. So much talent but zero output. For the umpteenth time, he needs to do better in games. Na wa. #GNBNGA #AFCON2023Q

See Chukwueze 😂😂😂😂
This boy doesn’t know how to play football anymore abeg.💔💔
Sweet 2v1, just pass the ball to Osimhen and we have the second goal.#GNBNGA

The contrast between Jose Peseiro's demeanor during training sessions and in actual matches is stark. Calm and inscrutable during the former, a nervous ball of energy and remonstration during the latter. #GNBNGA

The Super Eagles were not convincing in the victory over Guinea-Bissau.
But at least we won.
Jose Peseiro has to make the team play better to gain the trust of the fans.#GNBNGA #AFCON2023Q

The type of goals we miss though. I will definitely score. I’m not even capping. I will score!#GNBNGA #AFCON2023Q

I’ve not seen a country so poor at Set-pieces like the Super Eagles of Nigeria.💔💔💔#GNBNGA

Moses Simon is a waste of space in this Super Eagles set up. Release the ball to your nearest man. Do too much on the ball.
This team need two new wingers that are good on the ball and without it. #GNBNGA

So, Samu has no desire to cross ball first time in this match? 😡#GNBNGA
